Guest opensuse on virtualbox gets same ip address as host system via dhcp

Hi

I am running opensuse 12.3 on virtualbox on ubuntu 13.04 host

the host gets its ip via dhcp from local router 192.168.1.1

however opensuse (guest) also gets the same ip address via dhcp.

this is confusing …

network settings is Bridged adapter eth0. In other guest oses, they get a different unique ip address.
is this issue related to opensuse ?

It looks to me that the guest has the same MAC as the host, so it is the
same machine as far as the router is concerned, thus it gets the same IP.

You’ll need to be more detailed to describe your situation, eg
For both your Host and the problem Guest

ip addr

I would think that your DHCP should reject one or other Host once it discovers two different machines have the same IP adress or have the same MAC address.
And, in particular I’d expect that your Host and this Guest shouldn’t be able to communicate with each other over the network. If what is are describing is true, I image ARP must be going crazy on your network.

Since you seem to believe your Host and Guest are otherwise operating without a problem, I wonder if you’ve mis-read/mis-unerstood a configuration or you are soon going to experience problems.
