GTK application menu is not displayed in Plasma Global Menu widget

Hi, fellow openSUSE users.

I have had GTK menu application menus properly displayed in Plasma’s Global Menu widget in all distributions, although it some times required a trial and error process to add various packages that had “menu” “dbus” “gtk” in their names. I know for a fact that Inkscape’s and GIMP’s menus can be displayed properly in the Plasma Global Menu widget, but not Firefox, in all distributions I use.

But now in my Tumbleweed installation, none of these GTK applications’ menus are displayed in the Global Menu widget. Maybe this is related: the “appmenu-gtk3-module” is not in the repos anymore and there is no “appmeny-gtk4-module”.

What can I do to restore the previous behavior? I’ll note a few items in case they are relevant:

  • the menus of KDE applications are properly displayed in the widget
  • in Fedora the VS Code menu is only displayed in the widget when using X11
  • I am using a Wayland session in Tumbleweed because X11 sessions only display a black screen with a moyse cursor

Thanks

That is a known issue.

Thanks for the response. Can you point me to discussions on this issue and the plan to fix it, if there is one.

No, not really. Too long ago that I bothered. Also no idea who would have to fix what.

If there’s discussion anywhere, it would be on the KDE Bugzilla. I suggest having a look, and if you don’t see a similar bug, file one, explaining the issue.
