Good news!
As reported in the factory mail list. They want testers.

I doubt if this is for 12.1 because that is allready finished and out to the world.
If I understand correct, you do not want help with this (posted in a “Get Technical Help here” forum), but want to draw attention to this developers subject. Wouldn’t either Tech news or the Pre-Release/Beta forums have been a better place?

Oops! That was a typo, I meant 12.2.
However, I learnt that there is also some 12.1 support:

This should work in 12.1 already - just set LOADER_TYPE=“grub2” in
/etc/sysconfig/bootloader - and create the initial configuration.

I intentionally posted here because here are the people solving or having
problems with grub. There is another post by Martin on the news forum. It
might also be appropiate in the beta forum to request betatesters as the
original post did.
But there is no need to discuss this subject further in this forum.

Thanks for the explanation.
People should know that although with 12.1, openSUSE is still using the “Classic GRUB” bootloader, GRUB2 has been available for over a year now on 11.3, 11.4 and 12.1 as a “Chainloader” – ie, You still boot to “GRUB Classic” but if you also have the GRUB2 modules installed, besides your standard “Normal” and “Failsafe” menu options you should also see a “GRUB2” option.
Reading the page Carlos referenced, it’s not clear to me whether they’re simply ironing out some anomalies with the current chainloading modules or really trying to implement GRUB2 as the primary bootloader.
TS
See/Compare :
http://forums.opensuse.org/english/other-forums/news-announcements/tech-news/473140-opensuse-factory-grub2-default-bootloader-installation.html in the Tech News forum
(and as far is I understood the system of the English forums (where I am not in charge) it would be a better place to ask such questions [or in the Pre-Release/Beta forum especally if you have already tested the latest build iso from factory including the new install process …])

Martin

I think you should ask technical questions re this implementation directly
in the factory mail list, because the people doing this change are there.
There is already a thread discussing this.
