Grub question (2 grubs is one too many)

I have installed 11.2 next to my 11.1 version
I have a few big problems with 11.2 and I like to completely remove it.

there are 2 grub’s active now.
I want to remove the 11.2 grub and make the 11.1 grub master again, but I do not know where to change this, the MBR points to the 11.2 grub and changing menu.lst probably does not have any effect.

When you say you want to remove 11.2, do you mean from grub or from the disk?
The easy way to get 11.1 menu up firs, is to go to yast2>system>boot loader. Choose other from the dropdown and propose new config and get it to reinstall grub.

Too many grubs are gonna spoil the suse

I should imagine all that fretty has to do is change the boot flag from the partition that contains grub for 11.2 to that which contains grub for 11.1 using gparted, parted or cfdisk.

To this end, fretty, can you supply the output of fdisk -l from a root shell?

I think what the OP is experiencing is

11.2 has set a configfile entry in 11.2 grub to the menu.lst in 11.1

Quite normal and Good!

Yes. this is correct.
I will try to install 11.2 later on again but I do not want more than one grub and therefore remove the 11.2 grub from disk.

I do not want to take the risk making a mistake with Grub thats why I ask this forum.

In Yast 11.1 I can configure the boorloader, one config-item is
set the MBR back from Hard disk (does it mean the old MBR (11.1) will be active again and points to the 11.1 Grub???)
another config-item: Write startcode bootloader to disk (does it mean that the 11.1 grub will be the main bootloader ???)

When needed I can use gparted but maybe I just can use the 11.1 Yast booloader config.

Do you even realise the advantage of having it as it is!?

As you seem to have a plan, let us know if things work out OK.
