Hi!
I have an dual boot comp: WinXp on one HDD and Opensuse on second HDD!
During an OpenSuse update the power went out.
So now it seems Grub lost all menu entries for starting OpenSuse and only WinXp remains, which starts normal.
So… Is there a way to get my suse back to working order or should I do a fresh install (no important data would be lost)?
Are you sure that you’re booting Grub and not the Windows XP partition on your first HD with the Windows boot menu?
Yes!
It look as it always did (green screen…), but instead of “old” menu items I had before (Opensuse, opensuse filasafe and windows) only the Windows option remains (it still has the countdown cicrle next to it as it had before).
Reinstall and tell the installer not to format the home partition this will save you data and settings
Power lose while doing kernel update is a bad thing. Only thing worse is a power lose while updating the BIOS…ouch
Yep. Think about getting a UPS one of these days!
@gogalthorp:
Reinstall seems to be the quickest solution. Even if I manage to get the system to boot again who knows what a mess the power outage left behind…
@please_try_again:
An UPS would be an overkill IMHO. In the future I just should not update the system while dad in messing with power tools in the basement.
Thank you both for your help!
