I lost grub on installing window7 , used caf,s way Re-Install Grub Quickly with Parted Magic - openSUSE Forums to install but on typing find /boot/grub/menu.lst it does on find menu.lst however i could see the file by mounting the right drive.
I dont want to fresh install suse to get grub
its worth having a look here
GRUB Boot Multiboot openSUSE Windows (2000, XP, Vista) using the Grub bootloader.
yes i assume case condition is HowTo Boot into openSUSE when it won’t Boot from the Grub Code on the Hard Drive but the thing is same like using parted magic if i write find /boot/grub/menu.lst it does not return the right menu file
You may want to post your grub/menu.lst
that is intact as i said earlier (cant post right now as using other system) i ve verified it by explicitly mounting the partition sda6
I would have a read through some of the other that swerdna has there, he’s got it pretty much covered, in most cases. I think.
yes all possible options are there .
however in my case i think parted magic is not reading the hdd and is completely working and checking RAM
Parted Magic by default runs from RAM, but I have not seen it look in RAM in stead of the disk it should be working on.
when you say this
i think parted magic is not reading the hdd and is completely working and checking RAM
What makes you think this?
Thnx for the pains.however swedrna’way worked i got the grub using live cd dont kno why pm didnt work.so atlast problem is solved
Glad you got it going!
I said so because when i did fdisk -l it displayed sectors in multiples of 512 upto 3 GB equivalent to my ram. Still dont know why parted didnt look in hdd btw it looks good like a new os

Now that is interesting, the same command on my machine does what it should.
Perhaps a faulty download or burn?
This would also explain your problem in fixing this with parted magic, It may be that we should start suggesting to check md5sums any time we suggest Parted magic?
this thing didn’t come to my mind as it was behaving normal but i dont think it to be a dowload media error will probe further some other time
perhaps we should always check the checksum for all media
Certainly, when burning any media we should make sure the .iso and the final burn are good.
I have used Pared Magic more times than I can remember and it never fails. Why do I use it you may ask?
It’s small, light and quick to boot and has many other tools at hand.

The many other tools was the best point for me.Programs
I don’t know of a commercial offering that comes remotely close for versatility.
