Grub Error after Installation - EFI not detected

Good morning together,

actually, I want to start with openSuSE. So I installed the Tumbleweed NET Version on a USB Drive (GPT Partion, dd - write process) and installed on my Laptop (Lenovo, Ideapad, Ryzen 7 5700U). The installationprocess is very similar to the standard, beside I have activeded a disk-encryption, set a chop behind the Snaphots-Option and size my swap to the size of the ram.

After the installation, I end in the grub cli. I try diffrent typs of solutions, one of them, to start a openSuSE rescure System, mount the root and boot partion (and some stuff more, like sys) and tryed to install grub2 again. By the installtion of grub “grub2-install”, the command-line tell me, that the system is not a efi system.

And I dont speak from the EFI Partion. This was founded by “grub2-install”.

The thing is, i have only a UEFI - is no option for BIOS by the Laptop Firmware-Interface. Allready my Arch System was running with grub and a EFI Partion. Also, i run also CentOS on the Notebook without a problem like this.

Have enyone a idear how to fix it?

It is rather hard to understand what you did. Educated guess - you need to explicitly mount /sys/firmware/efi/efivars in addition to /sys itself.

Syr, i mean the the rescure system from openSuSE - how to Chroot in the System. See: How to Chroot in Rescue Mode | Support | SUSE - thats I can do somethings on the system.

See my previous reply. These instructions are too old for Tumbleweed. I am not sure if they still work even for Leap on EFI.

Oh, year overread, syr.
I’ll try it out, but only later. I’m actually separated by a few km from my device…

Hello arvidjaar,

thanks for you tipp. After I bound exactly the /sys/firmware/efi/efivars in the rescue system, I was able to install grub with the grub2-install and the system was bootable.

Actually, I write from the desktop.

How can I close the task as success…?
