Grub does not appear anymore

Hi, I installed Opensuse a month ago and I am very happy with this distro for my laptop, in this laptop there is a preinstalled Windows 8, it uses GPT and UEFI, but well, I installed Suse and pressing F9 I can choose my OS (if I dont press F9 for selection, windows boots).

The problem is as follows, I was using Opensuse until this Wednesday, no changes made (didn’t touch on Yast or anything), only the “important updates” (only a few, cause I was updating all the days that week) and then, the Sunday, I wanted to use my laptop and pressed F9 to select my Opensuse install but, instead of my grub, Windows appears and I do not have any clue why, any hints? By the way, Windows 8 was used that morning, apart from that, the laptop was untouched from Wednesday to Sunday.

I think that I could repair grub with some live tool, but I don’t want to face this problem again, so I need your help.

Bye and thanks in advance for reading me.

Hi,

please use a recent Linux live DVD / CD to boot,
like openSUSE 12.3 live DVD.
Open a terminal.
Become root using the command ‘su’.
Say ‘parted -l’.
Wait for 20-30 seconds until the output appears.

Post the output here.

Good luck
Mike
