Great Issues with Packman repository - package inconsistency

Hi everybody,

just switched from apt-based distry to SuSE, and there is this problem:

I try to install Miro on OS11.1.

zypper install miro (or in yast) tells me that its not in the repo. I got the packman repo for my 11.1 x86_64 activated.

When I look at the repo server directly there is no miro package at all - but when i got to packman on the web there is miro:

PackMan :: Informationen zum Paket Miro

WHY is it not in the repo then?

Anyway - I download the rpm and use zypper or yast to install - and there is is - the dependency-hell…

Please give me any advice how to install miro - I’m trying for 2hours now and going mad …

best regards,

Christian

is you add packmen repository to your list

zypper repos -u

did you have this one in your list of repositories?
http://ftp.skynet.be/pub/packman/suse/11.1/

note that 11.1 relay to your openSUSE distribution

add this string if you use oS11.1

sudo zypper addrepo -f http://ftp.skynet.be/pub/packman/suse/11.1/ Packman

from other hand you can find one click install button…

hope this will help you

sorry i missed some…

I f you carefully look in packmans link you provide… you see no 11.1 build of miro

WBR

As you have discovered, as of today, there is no Miro yet for 11.1.

I rely on Packman packaged packages so much for some of my hobbies, that I will not update from one openSUSE version to another, until I have made certain that the applications I like to use are packaged for the new openSUSE version.

On occasion, due to impatience to update to a new openSUSE version (usually because of some kernel feature or other aspect that I want) that I have on occasion updated to the new openSUSE version anyway (usually on a test PC) and:
a. rebuilt the rpm from the rpm .src file for the new openSUSE version, or
b. built the application from the source tarball, or
c. converted the rpm from a .deb package of the application to a .rpm package of the application using alien, or
d. sent a polite email to the packager of the application for the previous openSUSE version, asking if they might not consider packaging the same application for the latest openSUSE version.

Good luck with your efforts !

Packman is a bit all over the place at the moment for OS11.1

Do as per oldcpu or wait it out

Hi
Then there is also the build service as well for (a) and (b)

Hi again,

thanks so far … as I cant live without miro - I tried the source, no way to build :frowning:

Now I am at the source RPM - looks good until this:

The text leading up to this was:
--------------------------
|--- boost/spirit/home/classic/phoenix/operators.hpp.orig	2008-06-30 23:40:34.000000000 +0200
|+++ boost/spirit/home/classic/phoenix/operators.hpp	2008-06-30 23:44:31.000000000 +0200
--------------------------
File to patch:

What is this input wanting to be inserted - I tried +++, 1, the filename … how can I choose between the 2 presented options?

my cmd was: rpmbuild --rebuild miro-1.2.8-0.pm.1.src.rpm
