Hi
I’ve just installed 42.3 from the latest ISO image onto a new Inspiron Gaming Desktop 5675 (AMD Radeon RX 580 graphics), dual boot with Windows 10.
All generally seemed to be well until I started working with multiple terminals. I can create a KDE Plasma session on a second terminal but any attempt to switch between terminals (either using Ctrl-Alt-F n or the switch options in the app menu) causes the system to freeze. I’m just guessing this is a display/driver problem.
I presume the install uses an open source driver. Is there any merit in installing the Radeon proprietary driver instead?
Regards
Fred

Hi
Is the system all up to date, is the package drm-kmp-default installed?
If so try removing and locking;
zypper rm drm-kmp-default
zypper al drm-kmp-default

Hi Malcolm
Yes I fully updated the system immediately after the install.
And drm-kmp-default is installed. Presumably your suggestion removes it and prevents reinstall? Should it not be there?
Cheers

Hi
Yes, the backported fixes can cause issue with amd gpu’s, so best to remove, reboot and check.
Once removed and rebooted, can you provide the output from;
/sbin/lspci -nnk | egrep -A3 "VGA|3D"
Malcolm
That totally sorted the problem. Many thanks for this quick fix!
Just for the record:
/sbin/lspci -nnk | egrep -A3 "VGA|3D"
