And now some more random results. Two more attempts at a clean install
of M3 give the same graphic problem at mid-install. Nothing wrong with
the DVD. Tried 11.2 and all OK until we get to the sound card
configuration and the installation seizes up. This is also a familiar
erratic symptom of 11.2 installations and may well go away with a repeat
install - I hope. These random installation problems have been going on
for years (as far back as SUSE 7?) so my money’s still on something like
non-initialised variables.

I did an update of all packages today. It was a massive 3 gig update but it worked out fine. M4 was installed and the graphic problems are gone. M4 looks really great
now m3 work for me …i do not know how it works now
i have not install xorg-video yet …
but i’m so happy lol!

I’m also happy for you but, as I said before, it’s a matter of luck as
to whether it will install OK. I wonder if it depends on what sort of
mood Hal’s in? Was that a wise move to give a program that name? “Daisy,
Daisy . . .”
