hi,
i installed Flightgear yesterday. but after loading the scenery, there seems to be some kind of graphics issue- the screen flickers every 2-3 seconds. here is a screenshot:
Mine does that on standard 11.4 on my lenovo notebook, not every 2-3 seconds but from time to time. I read that FlightGear doesn’t run so well on laptops or on some Intel GMA’s.
You could begin by comparing the release levels with your Ubuntu for: kernel, xorg (at least xorg-x11-server), Mesa, libdrm, and 2D/3D graphics drivers.
BTW, I have applied relevant updates from the games repo for FlightGear, and I think it deteriorated a couple of updates back. What about you re updates applied?
@ consused,
sorry for the late reply. but all of them will vary between ubuntu and tumbleweed, right? For eg, kernel version of my ubuntu is 3.0.x while that of tumbleweed is 3.2.x. anyway, I didn’t bother to dig further for a solution. I boot into Ubuntu whenever i want to play Flightgear. thanks for the help.
OK. I only said it was a starting point, but it is an essential one to be well informed. Otherwise you are just shooting in the dark.
Yes, they will vary and you are closer to the edge with Tumbleweed. I’m only using it on a standard release for now. Actually mine has improved somewhat after some updates. I would at least compare the releases of FG and the graphics drivers (2D and 3D). At some stage if you update Ubuntu, you may hit the same problem [or not].
i too received some updates for Flightgear 2 days ago. but, still no difference. anyway, i will keep it installed in both OSes so that it will work in one or the other.
