I am looking to install inkscape, Gimp etc These are available from oss repo too. But slightly older versions.
Is it recommended to stick to oss repo / packman repo or flathub flatpaks are better option?

Installing from the openSUSE repos with Zypper provides a native application that is tightly integrated with your system’s shared libraries. A Flatpak is a self-contained, sandboxed application that runs in isolation with its own bundled dependencies.
The native package offers perfect integration with your OpenSUSE installation, while the Flatpak as the nature of being sand-boxed, provides better security by being isolated from your core system. For these two applications (Inkscape and/or GIMP), I would normally go with the ‘repo’ version. Up to you of course.
That’s what i thought. I will go with native apps as first option. Just wanted to confirm, as in the case of Fedora, native apps have issues.
There is a graphic repositories to try. I am not sure if there is a newer version for your applications. I don’t have leap installed, I am in tumbleweed.

I follow this logic:
1st Official repositories (oss and non-oss): but only if the programs do not depend on patented codecs;
2nd Flathub: video players, browsers, and software that are not in the official repositories. Using it this way ensures hardware acceleration;
3rd Third-party repositories (such as Packman) I avoid as much as possible, as they can cause dependency conflicts in major updates.
However, now I am uncertain about image editors and patented codecs…
Use what fits your requirements.
I installed gimp and inkscape from terminal. standard repos. I will check this graphics repo. Does 16 refer to leap 16?
also packman repo is still not available for leap 16.
It shoud be Leap 16
