Hi all,
i installed the ati driver like written in the wiki but i get a backtrace :/.
I tried to set up the Hardware with sax but didnt get it work.
If i type this :
sax2 -r C0 -m 0=radeonhd,1=nvidia
SaX: initializing please wait...
SaX: your current configuration will not be read in
SaX: access to your display has been granted
SaX: ups lost card during probing... abort
SaX: something went wrong while X was called with -probeonly
SaX: try to call 'sax2 -p' and select a single device ?
abort
and sax -p shows me this
sax2 -p
Chip: 0 is -> ATI Radeon X1550 Series (RV505 7143) 02:00:0 0x1002 0x7143 AGP fglrx
Chip: 1 is -> NVIDIA GeForce 8200 03:00:0 0x10de 0x0849 AGP nvidia
Its a fresh OpenSuse 11.0 install and i want dual screen with this setup.
Any hints are welcome.
So are you running an ATI card and an Nvidia card both at the same time? If so, I don’t think I have ever heard of anyone being able to do this successfully.
Yes i want to run them at the Same time :). But i expected something like that. With my old pc it was possible to run a intel and a ati card at the same time.
My compliments on your bravery. I would get a very large pot of coffee brewing and have several packs of cigarettes handy in case you decide to take up smoking at some point in the process.
Even my notebook has dual head capability. Can’t you find an inexpensive video card with dual head capability? Or are you running more than two monitors?
Sorry I can’t be of any help here, except to wish you the very best of luck with this project and let us know how it goes.
I’d be very careful with any ATi graphics card driver at all (if it’s supplied by ATi/AMD)
I’ll copy the reasons why from my other post about ATI:
“ATi/AMD doesn’t support the linux distrobution graphics card drives, they just make them” also “no, they don’t know how to install/uninstall them, and are completely dovoid of any shell command knowledge”
so bassically if you run into problems with an ATi driver It’s up to you to fix it, as they don’t have any Idea what linux is…
I think the only way you’ll have a prayer of getting this to work would be to install proprietary driver on only one of the cards and use the stock driver on the other.
Installing the proprietary ATI driver and then the proprietary NVidia driver would be a recipe for disaster, IMHO.
