This application is not working. There is some unrecognized error. I have 11.4. gnome 3 environment. In 12.1. is normally working.

did you use YaST (or zypper?) to install Gramps (what version?) to your
11.4 Gnome3 machine? (is 12.1 on a different machine?)

My machine is now 11.4. I use both KDE 4.7 and Gnome 3 environment. I use zypper with installation. I tried 12.1. gnome, for the time being I had to uninstall it due to capacity disc reasons. In both environment is impossible to switch this application on.

i just now used YaST to install into my openSUSE 11.4 (with KDE 4.6.0)
the application Gramps version 3.2.5-5.1 from the openSUSE 11.4 OSS repo

it launched without error or hesitation…and i ‘played’ with it for
about 10 minutes, added a new family tree and clicked around looking at
the different stuff…no problems seen anywhere at any time…

so the only thing i can think of is:
-i don’t have KDE4.7 (mine is what came with 11.4, KDE4.6)
-mine has nothing from factory (ie 12.1) or Tumbleweed installed
-has not had both KDE (4.6 and 4.7) and Gnome3 (and Gnome2?) installed

two KDEs and two Gnomes could easily mean 16 different variations in
combinations of libraries…except, there was also a mix in of 12.1,
more like 32 possible variations of different stuff at different times…

it has been my experience the more different things one adds from
different repos the more likely things will get fouled up…

if you need to run Gramps i guess will need to decide what basic system
and desktop environment you want to use, and install that, and only
that…and, i expect you will have no trouble…

if you want to be adventuresome and mix and match DEs, test out the
latest and greatest DE then do that on your experimental machine (most
folks call that a sandbox)…and NOT on the one you want Gramps to work on…

by the way, i’ve seen LOTS of problems reported today with 4.7, if you
need Gramps to run why not wait a month or four before you make such big
changes to your system?

the choice is yours…

What specific error do you get?

I am sorry but unspecific. I think, that there is a possibly problem with gnome 3 environment. Gramps I could not switch on before installing 4.7. KDE.

Try starting it from a terminal window. It’s nearly impossible to
diagnose an unspecified error message.
