I am using thunderbird as my email client with enigmail for dealing with PKI. I tried signing a friend’s key and this is the message i get:
Key signing failed
GnuPG reported an error in the communication with gpg-agent (a component of GnuPG).
This is a system setup or configuration error that prevents Enigmail from working properly and cannot be fixed automatically.
We strongly recommend that you consult our support web site at https://enigmail.net/faq.
In seahorse, I get “Couldnt sign key: General error”
Start by mentioning which desktop you are using. I suppose it is Gnome or maybe XFCE.
I’m not having any problem with Thunderbird/Enigmail in KDE, but I haven’t tried it with Gnome or XFCE.
If you have only recently created your own GPG setup (key, etc), then logout and login again. See if that fixes the problem. Maybe that’s worth trying even if you have had the key for a long time.
I’ve got it fixed. It was probably because I copied my gnupg directly from my old installation. I exported keys and re imported them, restart and everything is fine!
