Google +

Today i am kinda bored. So i was browsing the news a little and seen that Google introduced a new service called Google +.
It is essentially a Facebook by Google, but with a nicer presentation.
Not sure how it is about privacy, you need a Google account to use it.

I wonder if i already have an account since i have Google mail. Have to check.

Here is the link. Any comments?

Looks like some interesting ideas, I might check it out.

i asked to join their list of waiting for room/capacity…

i like the idea of (for example) having all “Linux friends” in one
circle and all (say) “family” in another, and all who share my live
music interest in another, and etc…

this has always ‘bothered me’ with facebook/etc, which is all see, or
individual messages…

I haven’t seen the required invite in my gmail inbox but I would like one. I would gladly leave Facebook. I like the circles idea.

i don’t know who they send invites out at this stage; i didn’t get one
either. if you go to http://tinyurl.com/6zckn8a you can apply for one.

It’s possible to have posts seen only by a list of people, or hidden from a list, in Facebook. Click the “privacy” lock and you’ll have several options.

Google? Privacy? LOL!

Yeah, it’s just not very user-friendly if you have a large number of
connections on FB, unless you started adding people to the group when
accepting friend requests or inviting them. I’ve played around with that
functionality a little bit, but found it to be just too time consuming to
try to add everyone to appropriate groups.

Yeah, it’s a very small group right now, and apparently they sent more
invites out than they wanted to accept right away.

Its pre beta, isn’t it? I wait as well.

@chef_sealth i really was thinking about it, but of course it might be only a dream. One can hope.

I didn’t see a URL to request and invite there.

Yes this gives you fine grained adjustments to what you share with different relationships. The Facebook experience on my iPhone and on my Velocity Cruz is pretty crappy. I am tied into Google already with Gmail. I just hope the people who matter to my will switch away. I also hope some of the groups I follow on Facebook migrate too or start alternate groups…

LOL it seems pretty good. If any one gets Google+ shoot me an invite. FlameBait at gmail dot com

I’d love to see some openSUSE circles

I have Google+ invites and would like to be part of a openSUSE circle.
message me and I’ll try and get you hooked up.

I believe it requires you to have a gmail account established. If invites are still required for that I can hook you up for that too.

it seems google+ is opening up to the public now. the ‘invite’ button
stays on all the time while it used to appear sporadically only. how to
find you on g+ ?

phani.

A private message to me here on the forums will get to me.
I’d be glad to hook you up.

i’m “hooked up” already, but wondering how to find linux/openSUSE contacts
on g+. i’ll write you a private message with my email, since that’s the
only way i can see to find people.

Yes. So far that’s the only way I have added people to a circle or invited them to a circle is by email address. I am more or less stumbling along.

It’s off to the crib for me.

In my opinion is better than Facebook; loads more faster but i will see that difference in 6 months or so when the number of users increase. Personally i added Linus Torvalds in one of my cirles and guess what guys and girls: kernel 3.0 is here, hope to see it in Tumbleweed

Kernel 3 is in milestone 3 already.

I thought Linus announced today that it was released.
