Good experience!

Hi every1,

Well after a few weeks on OpenSUSE I can say: I will not go back to Windows! It took some time to take the leap and I had some issues starting out, but I found help on the forum and I got everything under control (mostly).

I had been delaying the move to Linux for years. I had tried (old) versions of Suse (before it was Open), Redhat, Mandrake and recently Debian, I’ve run the Ubuntu live CD and Knoppix a few times and though I found no issues with them I decided on openSUSE because:

  1. I like Novell. Liked it since I started out in the IT business and learned how flexible Netware with ZEN was.
  2. The only other person I know who uses Linux on his desktop for personal use uses OpenSUSE and likes it, and he gives me tips.
  3. iSeries (system i/5, as/400 or whatever IBM is calling them this month) systems support Suse
  4. My company has some SAP systems running on Linux and most of them use Suse.
  5. But mostly because this is the one that “stuck” on my PC.

I have bought an Asus eeepc 900 last week and also installed opensuse 11 on there. Works like it should.

I’m happy with opensuse. I don’t like the way Windows is headed. It’s a toybox with more focus on the way it looks than on the way it works. Vista is an inefficient cluttered mess. My wife has it on her laptop (an overpriced Sony thing that came preconfigured with it and a load of other stuff I wouldn’t want for myself) and likes it for the same reason I don’t - too much fluff.

Oops didn’t mean to end on a Windows-rant, it wouldn’t be THAT bad if you could just leave out all the unneccessary add-ons (or uninstall them later).

But I’m loving openSUSE, and already looking forward to 11.1! I’m having a lot of fun.

I like that reason. I’d certainly be a lot worse off without help from
other folks.

Hi!
Before I used openSUSE I used Ubuntu but it was not an alternative to Windows XP so I tried openSUSE and I am satisfied with it.

Actually I had some problems with it but I read in forums how to solve 'em and now everything seems to work.

When I showed my friends the desktop-effects they were amazed that Linux has such effects and some of them now think about using Linux too.

That’s a good way to spread the word. Good job!

My uncle told me that Linux operating systems are complicated to use and I wanted to convince myself and I made the experience that you have to work with it.

On my first computer I had Windows 98 installed and most of the knowledge I have about Windows I received while I was working with it.

So that’s why I think that it won’t be different with openSUSE. Learning by doing!

hi everyone

My first experience with linux was with opensuse professional 9.3 (compliments of Linux Megazine)

I am enjoying the whole Linux enviroment. I have tried other distros. I’m comfortable with opensuse. (if Icould just solve the minor network issue).
