Going on business trip tomorrow, no umts now, ip config fails!

I realised the last time I used the umts on this notebook was a month ago. Going on a business trip tomorrow, but there is a bug, somewhere…

This is a Lenovo T420s, UMTS used to work. I tried various kernels (3.7 - 3.9), but no luck. I’m using Tumbleweed, but updated to KDE 4.10.3.

NetworkManager says:

I need urgently an idea, why the ip-config for the umts card fails?!

Regards,

Alexander

I might be wrong, but this sounds like the issue may be specific to your provider (or provider-specific configuration)

Review the settings in your NM config with these perhaps:

Germany - APN Changer and Data Sim Guide

Seems like the APN name has changed from
internet.t-mobile
to
internet.telekom

Thank you, I’ve changed that, but no success. Same message: ip-config-unavailable

Kind regards,

Alexander

Try deleting the connection and starting over.

I stumbled across this thread while searching:

https://mail.gnome.org/archives/networkmanager-list/2013-March/msg00119.html

The behaviour is the same as you report, but I’m not sure about the same cause/regression…

Can you just for fun - as I do not know if that helps in any way - try
the setting (in the ip v6 tab for the connection) to set ip v6 as link
local?
Your problem sounds a bit similar to that

HannsBook: oS 12.3 x86_64 | SU4100@1.3GHz | 2GB | KDE 4.10.2 | GMA4500

I tried with the new data and the automatic install, but in vain. I can not get an IP. The log has the same lines as posted before.

Well, I even updated the package mobile-broadband-provider-info.

Any ideas how to go on?

Review Martin’s post first, just in case…

Not sure what else to suggest. What does the following say about your network devices?

nm-tool

Thank you as well, I ticked the “Method: Link Local”, and to make sure, I rebooted. No success. But here is a log after booting, I only had to delete the lines which wifi connections have been checked, because they contain personal data.

While booting, there was no network connection.

Thank you very much for your help!

Kind regards,

Later just “disconnected”.

if it were me in your position, I’d consider purchasing a cheap USB dongle for my journey (and swap SIM card out), but this may not be a practical option for you.

I’ve got an old one somewhere, but without you mentioning it I would never have realised that. Thank you again.

Kind Regards,

Alexander

I’m glad that I could jog your memory. I hope it works for you until the other issue can be resolved at your leisure. Good luck.

SOLVED:

I went back to ModemManager 0.6.0.0-3.8.1. TW has 0.7.990, which was installed, but obviously does not work in my case.

I nearly suggested that  I’m glad that’s all it was. A bug report should still be submitted when you get time.
