gns3 console problems

Good Day,

I am having an issue bringing up a console on gns3. I am running gns3 as root. I have tried both version 6.1-22 and version 7.1, the latter from one click install. The funny thing is that I was able to get two previous versions running without a problem. However, I have tried two other installations with the same result (same result).

When I try launching the console (xterm) it appears for a split second and then disappears. I tried using gnome-terminal and I am getting an error about being unable to create the child process. I have checked the syntax of the command to launch the terminal and I have even tried using debug level 3 both shows no indication of an issue. Can anyone assist me. Thanks.

Just an update. This happens on opening the first window. Port 2000 is the first used. If I open up a second window then 2001 is used. I am not seeing the problem to be a port conflict as this works as it should. To confirm is used the list command and it shows no port conflicts. To be clear, this happens on the first and only router where I am unable to console into. I am using openSUSE 11.2 and as mentioned before this worked fine on two other separate installs. Could this have been caused by update, bug of some kind?

I figured out the issue. It seems that I forgot that telnet is not installed by default on openSUSE 11.2.

Once I installed telnet, everything worked the way it was supposed to. Solid and stable.

I’m having similar issues with 11.3 & 11.4 versions of OpenSuSe and GNS0.7.3

I do have telnet installed, running as root and I see the terminal blip for a split second at best then disappear. I cannot even make out what is on the terminal screen when it pops up.

please be specific on what you are using:

opensuse 11.3 & 11.4 x86 or x64, which Cisco IOS model and version, with how many slots / interfaces and how much ram that router has?
try increasing the ram size of that router, if it has 64Mb, increase to 128Mb and check if it works. btw, i dont run it as root.
