I went to YAST, Software Respositories, and looked for libavcodecs. What I did find was a path to:
Index of /pub/vlc/SuSE/11.1/x86_64/
Then, I found libavcodec52-0.5.0.18981-1.1.x86_64.rpm
I have a Toshiba Satellite 64-bit laptop.
I am wondering if this is the file that I am supposed to install, or is it something I should stay away from?
Any help appreciated. -= David =-

On itself, libavcodec, is a collection of encoders and decoders for audio and video but one cannot invoke and use it directly (unless you code an encoder- or decoder-frontend to use it), it needs a frontend like the said programs provide. It offers functionality to many programs
Thank you. I gave it a couple of hours’ thought, and I did another search. I found the necessary file. I’m watching a DVD now. I wish the volume were higher, but with headphones it is fine. I put “opensuse ogg codec” into a Google search, and there was the link.
