Gnome slab menu behaviour

Is there some way to make the Gnome slab menu always display the Applications section when it’s opened? By default it displays whichever section it was displaying before it closed which is quite irritating as the vast majority of the time what I want is the Applications section.

I’ve part way solved this. Which section is displayed when the menu is opened is controlled by the gconf key /desktop/gnome/applications/main-menu/file-area/file_class
This means that the selected section is preserved accross sessions (which is even more annoyingand IMO, just daft.) Setting the value of this key to 0 in the mandatory schema means that Applications is always selected when you first open the menu after logging in. This is a slight improvement but I really want to find a way to make it the default all the time.
