Gnome panel: open items gone...

I am brand new to the world of Linux so please bare with me.

I just installed opensuse 11.0 on my laptop and it’s wonderful except for a few small issues.

  1. At boot up, after autologin has been performed some key handler asks me for my system password and so does a lot of other things like Yast file repository and such, is there a way to disable it? my googling didn’t yield much.

Anyways my main issue is that in the gnome panel it did show the open programs in a windows-taskbar fashion which gives me great overview and its missing, the gnome panel is there and all just like always but it no longer shows the open programs there. I was tinkering with Cairo Dock when it wen’t missing, but i can’t find what/if cairo dock would have done to change that.I am brand new to the world of Linux so please bare with me.

oh yes and I found the function of minimizing windows to the titlebar like winroll does for windows or which comes naturally with macOS but the settings allows for the function to work with double clicking when in fact i would like the right clicking action to do this, is there a way?

Well, the key handler, at least on my system, is asking for a password
that my user has set for keys which is not necessarily the password for
my user, but is definitely not necessarily my root/system password.
This is probably automatically loading to cache passwords that other
applications are using. I get the same prompt because my networks are
WPA2 encrypted and to get on the wireless the proper data are needed and
can be provided either by me (painful) or by this component (easy) after
I put in a password. So to get rid of it you could stop loading
whatever has saved passwords, like NetworkManager, but in most cases it
is nice. The Yast file repository… I’m not sure what you mean there.

Good luck.

Hi, to get open windows on panel right click on the panel and select “Add to panel”. Select “Window list” from the list.

Nevermind, sorry for the trouble. I managed to get help with most of the issues.
