Hi again,
This is all a bit new/strange to me i installed suse on gnome but the screenshots for kde look better so i downloaded that one (kde)
Does kde need a pc with a bit more ooomphh than Gnome uses,at the moment alls well running on gnome so would i be better leaving well alone i tried the live cd but couldn`t get the screen resolution to alter ( eyesight …its my age you know !!!)
or put it briefly whats the difference apart from looks
Cheers Tony
Actually, according to my usage KDE4 needs less resources than Gnome. They aren’t that far apart, however, and if you can run one you can easily run the other.
You will get all sorts of opinions. KDE4 is supposed to be leaner than Gnome and it’s predecessor KDE3.
I’m not going to say one is better than the other, though my choice is kde. But if you like gnome then use it. I have Gnome in Fedora 10 and it’s sweet, though I have recently added kde4 there too.
I do find kde configuration better and also file management to me is better.
KDE4 is a new desktop and some users are finding it not so friendly as the previous kde3. Though I have to say I wouldn’t go back now. KDE4.2 is rockin’
I find both Gnome and KDE fine. I converted to Gnome, because it is lighter as compared to KDE 3.5. As for KDE 4.2, I have found it a bit less friendly.
And finally, I am trying out XCFE 4.6.0. It looks good, so I would recommend considering it.
Hi,
I tried the latest KDE but when i went to alter the screen resolution it all locked up so after 3 goes i decided to go back to gnome i`m getting used to it now.
That’s right. I also recommend you XFCE 4.6.0.- not because it looks so good. After using the KDE4 series from the first beta, I’ve found XFCE stable then any >KDE4.0. You can’t customize it to the last part, but if you are looking for a DE, where you can be productive and you don’t need to hack the stuff after every update I recommend you XFCE.
