Gnome (Nautilus Super User Priviledges)

I am new to Gnome, I thought I’d give it a try as I have been using KDE for about 5 months or so. In KDE when I wanted to make changes to the ROOT directory in Dolphin it would prompt me to enter the root password however in Nautilus I’m not getting that option.

Is there just a simple thing I am overseeing or is there something I need to tinker with. I have only had it installed for a day but have been searching for the answer for a few hours now. I have found some work arounds which unfortunately do not work. Any advice would be great.

To edit files in root folders,
in a normal user terminal do this
Eg;
gnomesu gedit /etc/fstab

Perfect! I wasn’t aware that gnomesu was the command that I needed. Thanks a ton  I can achieve what I need with that command, however is there a way that I can just enter the root password whenever I want to make a change whilst in the file manager or do I need to access it via the terminal? I can always just make a link to it if needs be but was wondering if there isn’t just a way to make the changes when I’m trying to access the Root folder in the file manager.

I don’t use gnome.
But I made a super user launcher for kwrite (like gedit).

Though I seldom use it. It’s just as easy to open a terminal and type away.

Right click menu
Go to the location you want to create it
Add new Item
Call it gedit superuser
command: gnomesu gedit

you can add an icon too
save

How To: Nautilus Super User Mode in Gnome - openSUSE Forums

Wilson, thanks for the post, I did this earlier before reading your post, feels great to have figured it out on your own. But thanks for taking the time to post, I appreciate it.

Awesome.

Thank you so much. Great info and well documented for noobie like me.
