Gnome mouse "busy" icon

Hi: openSUSE 11.1 Gnome 64-bit

When my mouse is inactive with the pointer resting on the Desktop, the “busy” icon (rotating circle) operates constantly, even though no obvious processes are opening.

How do I stop that (or how do I change the mouse theme to one that has no moving “busy” icon)?

Thanks

You will have first to determinate if the cursor is busy due to some process
running in background or if “completely” busy at all (it never changes)

Some things to try:

  • Run “top” to check for any gnome-related process eating up cpu.
  • Try to open a gnome session with another user (root) and check if the same
    behavior is still present.

It was so very irritating – that I reinstalled openSUSE, keeping the same /home but a new root.

I did try top but couldn’t find anything helpful. I didn’t think to try logging on as another user.

I rather think it was related to my forcibly removing the two compulsory Desktop icons (online help and openSUSE greeter).

Thanks anyway.

Drastic measures allways work

Oh, yes. That is one of the Gnome “most annoying bugs”. It has an easy fix,
btw.

You’re welcome.

And thanks to you Camaleón, I now have removed the two icons in my new installation without re-damaging my system.
