In looking at the screenshots for 13.1, I was taken by the shots for GNOME Maps (not sure why)? Does an equivalent exist for KDE? I’ve seen a few posts mention Google Maps, which I assume (perhaps incorrectly) favors neither KDE nor GNOME. I’m not a big fan of Google Earth for regular use, but I was not really aware of Google Maps. How do those two compare with one another? Are there any other worthwhile map programs at this point for 13.1?
I’m seriously looking at installing 13.1 on my laptop, but I am undecided as to whether to go with KDE or GNOME, and I’m not really sure I want both, especially since I am also thinking about throwing Enlightenment on as well.
I’ve been poking around the forums reading the triumphs and troubles of some users, just to get a feel for things and for what to expect. So far, though, I am encouraged both by what I’ve read and by the very helpful members of this forum.

Though it is a KDE(GNOME maps) tool you can probably run it on KDE.
Almost all Linux applications are DE independent. You just need the
library files installed

Yeah, I kind of figured that, but I usually resist installing applications that are designed for one DE if I am running a different one so as not to have to install libraries I would not otherwise use or need.
As far as Marble is concerned, it might be just what I’m looking for. Does anyone know if it is in the 13.1 repositories?
EDIT: Never mind. I see that it is available for 13.1. Nice!

Of course, if you install an application that needs the libraries and
whatnot, then you have installed something you would otherwise use or
need.

True.:shame: What I meant to say is that I would like to avoid installing a bunch of “extra” libraries for a DE I am not using simply to be able to use one application. Maybe I just install it all anyway and then look forward to the hundreds of updates that will likely follow.

Oh, I understood what you meant. My mind sometimes just has a funny way
of seeing things.
