Gnome liveCD boot of 11.2 RC2 fails for me

I downloaded the liveCD Gnome of RC 11.2 and burnt it; I have now tried to boot it on two of our computers; (that run varying versions of OpenSuse well);

in both cases, by pressing escape and watching the boot sequence I got the message; after many iterations;

INIT: Id “5” respawning too fast: disabled for 5 mins;
INIT: no more processes left in this runlevel

I take it you did the media check

Try removing all boot arguments and just add the number 3

At the login, login as root
No password, just hit ↵ a couple of times

then try; startx

sorry; this is the problem of dealing with experts …

Try removing all boot arguments and just add the number 3

*I get a welcome screen

I select liveCD; it starts running and then gives the message I quoted …*

At the login, login as root

No password, just hit ↵ a couple of times

then try; startx

When you select Live CD
Look lower down - can you see where it says ‘Boot Options’
type 3
It should appear there, and just hit enter

follow my earlier instructions to login as root at the CLI

no good;

just spirals out as I press “escape” and watch it attempt to boot;

something about I/O error on sr0 and same respawning stuff

… meaning thanks for the advice about boot options;

I entered 3 as advised; hit enter; got a Suse backdrop screen; and pressed escape to watch what it did as it started to boot;

I will try another DVD drive later to do the burn again;

I downloaded an Ubuntu 9.10 to try; it failed to boot (computer 1) and I then copied the Ubuntu iso to an older DVD drive; (computer 2)

it is now booting okay on (a third) computer;

so I should try to copy the Suse .iso to the older computer and burn from that, and re-try;

aren’t computers simple …

got some sort of hardware issue with the DVD/CD drive on the newest computer;

probably going to be fixed by discarding and installing a new one:

RC 11.2 now boots through early stages fine after burning on old DVD drive; (and at precautionary slow speed); on computer 2

and boots further into sequence; seems to have reached another hiccup but will report back later

You didn’t actually answer if you had run the media check?
