Gnome is broken

Today I’ve ran the updates for my Tumbleweed system. But now Gnome will not start up. I see the background being loaded and then “something went wrong” error. Can’t do anything with the system currently. Disabling extensions didn’t do the trick, because upon logout I get the same “can’t recover error”. Now I’ve renamed all sessions in /usr/share/xsessions to force openSUSE to boot into XFCE, which works.

Can anybody help on the issue at hand? Anything I can look at to fix this?

I’m using Gnome Tumbleweed
I can login and use it no problem, but the window decor is corrupt. That issue is being addressed.
If ever you can’t login, you should try a IceWM login session.

What would a IceWM session do to my Gnome session, so that Gnome is fixed again?

Nothing
It’ll just get you to a working desktop albeit basic
Saves having to work from tty

Ah. As I stated in the opening post, I’ve forced openSUSE into XFCE.

I do get a DE at the moment, as stated before, though I can’t log-out out of my session. When I do so I get the “something went wrong” error message and the system is non-responsive. I would appreciate any hints on what this might be or where and what to look for…

I got it solved by running “zypper dub” and I have no clue what it was, but now all is working again.

That’d be a miracle because it’s

zypper dup

not
zypper dub

Good huh! :stuck_out_tongue:
