Gnome crashes with Oh no something has gone wrong

Hello Everyone,

on my leap 15.6 machine, as soon as i log in i get a popup with the following message , the entire screen is blocked by this popup and the only option here is to log out.

My system is Leap 15.6 with nvidiaG05-32bit-470.256.02-lp156.77.1.x86_ driver.

Any pointers on how to fix this?

Thanks!

There is no 32 bit support in Leap 15.6, so either you chose the wrong nvidia driver or the wrong distribution (Leap) if you really have 32 bit hardware.

There’s an underscore 86_ so I suspect some copy pasting went wrong.

Maybe, but then it is the wrong driver anyway, the correct one would be the nvidia-glG05-470.256.02-lp156.77.1.x86_64.rpm

this is the output i have

No. It is not the wrong driver.

32-bit Nvidia packages get installed as hard dependency of different packages (e.g. Steam) on all 64bit machines. They are available also for Leap…

Example for G06 driver on Tumblweed:

I know, as long as the _64 driver is installed as well to drive the screen, which the OP shows as installed in the last reply…

Can you please post the result of:

Better with package versions (to see possible inconsistencies):

zypper se -si nvidia

i have edited the response above with the updated output requested

Start by disabling all extensions you’ve installed. Usually these issues come from extensions behaving badly.

actually i have not installed any extensions, but to be sure i did the following

gsettings set org.gnome.shell disable-user-extensions true

Check which extensions are enabled,

gsettings get org.gnome.shell enabled-extensions
@as []

The issue still persists

Not sure the G05 driver supports Wayland. Are you trying to login on Gnome-on-X11 session? Can you login in IceWM?
Please post zypper se -si session

Add a second User and log in whith that User.
Does it works?

i have disabled wayland actually and logging into X session, icewm also doesn’t work.

[daemon]
InitialSetupEnable=False
# Uncomment the line below to force the login screen to use Xorg
WaylandEnable=false
zypper se -si session

I created a new user and but the result is the same. The same popup directly after login. It’s happening in other user accounts too, i would suspect this is more a system issue rather than a user mis configuration.

The basic software installed seems OK; some old Quadro GPUs had odd behaviour but cannot recall the details ATM. Maybe @malcolmlewis has still some similar HW around (and better memory)?

I see the following messages in the /var/log/messages, are these the cause of the issue?
