OpenSuSE 10.1 KDE 3. Gnome apps use to have detachable menus. I know about KDE Personal Setting, but how does one change Gnome application setting, when the desktop is KDE?

After doing some reading, I issued the commands shown below, but Gnome apps like Gimp aren’t showing tearoff menus. My desktop is KDE. Any suggestions? Thank you.
Set:
gconftool-2 --type bool
--set /desktop/gnome/interface/menus_have_tearoff true
Verified:
gconftool-2 -a /desktop/gnome/interface
