If you do nothing with an openSUSE 11.4 Gnome install, it isn’t going to automatically change to Gnome 3 or anything, right? How will this work with Tumbleweed’s rolling-updates?
As GregKH (initiator and in charge of the Tumbleweed project) said here tumble weed on the gnome live cd?, don’t use Tumbleweed with GNOME 3 because your in for real mess and lots of breakages.
Hi
Nothing wrong with Gnome 2.xx on 11.4 and no it won’t change on 11.4 automatically (unless you add the repository when it’s ready).
Not sure about tumbleweed, it’s better to ask over in their subforum
No nastieness at all They needed to activate so the promotional DVD could be built, unfortunately the link got published as being ‘available’ when it wasn’t ‘officially’ (<- key word here) available…
That being said, I’m running Gnome 3.0 fine on my netbook sofar.
Sorry, didn’t realize there was one.:shame:
And in the words of one of my former bosses: Is it done yet? Is it done yet? Is it done yet? Is it done yet? Is it done yet? Is it done yet? Is it done yet? Is it done yet?
rotfl!
In the words of my four year old Son…are we there yet…
Oh no, deja vu, that’s what my wife says.
Does GNOME 3 have a fall back option for people that are using the nouveau driver for the case whereby they cannot use the binary ATI or nVIDIA drivers for accelerated video graphics?
Yes, there’s a fallback option. In my opinion, the fallback option is better than the real thing.
I tried the live CD for Gnome 3 on my newer laptop it ran in fall-back mode with a ATI video adapter.
On a old “junker” P-III it ran in accelerated mode. Either way it was a disappointment to me because
I could not find a way to change anything to fit my taste as was possible in Gnome 2.xx. So I started
moving towards KDE as it still allows the windows and desktop to be configured, not just the wallpaper.
Just my opinion though, (Your mileage may vary).
