Im sort of a newb to OpenSUSE and I was wondering if anyone could give me some help
Im running OpenSUSE 11.4 on my laptop and I decided to try out the Gnome 3 shell. I really like the design and I like the way it functions so I would like to keep using it, but it seems as though every time I install a new application or package it breaks Gnome 3. This is really frustrating because when I then try to log in it just gives me that stupid cryptic error message that im sure you all have heard about >:(
“Oh No! Something went wrong!” or something like that and then it tells me to log out.
I know a fair bit about linux in general, but im no expert by any stretch of the imagination (my experiences have been with Ubuntu, Xubuntu, Linux Mint, and some older distros) so im only used to the Apt-get package manager and I find zypper to not be very understandable… So I don’t know if im breaking Gnome 3 every time I install something because of some dependencies not getting installed.
I looked around on the forums and I cant seem to find this problem anywhere else and this is my first post so im sorry if I posted in the wrong place or anything. Please be gentle. xD

P.S My laptop is running a Intel cure 2 duo processor and an Intel mobile graphics chipset (which runs gnome 3 fine normally).
Okay not every one, I installed Google Chrome without breaking it, I guess what I should have said was that it broke when I tried changing which java web plugin and most of the gnome-shell-extensions seem to mess things up. Although all of this might be contributed to my newness to zypper and YaST etc. Sorry for not being precise

Try using YaST instead of zypper?
If that works, at least you know it’s some magic incantation that you’re
not performing. If it doesn’t work, it’s more likely to be broken software.
I guess I’ll try that Im also going to install the OpenSUSE from the Gnome 3 website, that way I know its not just some package being installed wrong to begin with thats the problem.
