Gnome 3 frustration #2

I updated my laptop (Dell Lattitude E6500 8Gb RAM) to 12.1 x86_64.

Suspend. I suspend to ram, it usually works fine, but sometimes when I restart instead I get a different looking (much prettier I might add) unlock dialog (black and rounded, almost Android like in it’s form) and when this happens it looks like it re-initialized because all my windows and processes are gone. It also starts iFolder over again (I have a different problem I need to post in a different forums where the iFolder client usually locks on boot but when this happens it starts successfully even though I had killed it on my original boot otherwise it never finishes boot up)…

So that’s the long story but my problem boils down to inconsistent resume from suspend.

Any ideas here?

I’m not sure why you needed to start three separate threads.

I’m choosing this one to respond to all posts.

It is very likely that you have a video problem. Gnome 3 is pushing your video to its limits, but the driver cannot handle it.

I suggest that you go to forced fallback mode.

This is from memory, and it changed a with different releases, so I hope you can follow.

Click on your name (top right), and select “System settings”. In the window that pops up, select “Screen” or “Graphics” or maybe it is “System info” - you might have to do a little testing. Then, in the left column of the new window there should be a menu item that seems to be related to graphics settings. Once you click that, you should find a switch to force fallback mode.

Thank you for your reply. I will test this. I opened three separate threads because I felt these might be three separate problems.

From what I read here, you’re in fall back mode all the time. The black Android like boxes, that’s how your entire GNOME 3 should be.
Which brings me to the question: graphics card? Driver installed?

Cannot fiind any such setting under System Settings -> Display or System Settings -> Screen
