I last checked about it last week, and according to what was said I though it would be released this week…

Good morning,

Sorry to raise this thread back up but I was wondering if there were any updates with regard to Gnome 3.4.

I see from the Build Service page that 201 packages have been showing successfully built for a day or two now.

Just out of curiosity I was wondering, are there more packages to build? or has another issue delayed publishing?

I was going to just wait for openSUSE 12.2 for Gnome 3.4, but if there’s a way to add it to 12.1 I would be keen to know it. Gnome 3.2 has been nothing less than absolutely tremendous on my PC, but I would love to get 3.4 installed and have a play.

You could add this repo Index of /repositories/GNOME:/STABLE:/3.4/openSUSE_12.1 . It’s empty so far, build is still going on, but if it’s finished this is the repo where they will be published.

Thanks for the heads up. I presume that when it’s up and running, that if I want to use it I have to switch all installed packages to this repository in YasT?

If you allready have the /repositories/GNOME:/STABLE:/3.2/openSUSE_12.1 repo
enabled i gues all you need to do is to change 3.2 to 3.4 and run zypper ref
and zypper up.
That’s what i’m planning to do anyway because if i let yast change
everything to that repo it will mess up the way i set up my repos right now.
Like it would also change mutimedia stuff from packman to the gnome repo and
i don’t want that.
Offcourse it can be changed afterwards, but that’s more unnessesary work.

That requires switching to the 3.2 repo first. Just having it enabled is not enough. A “zypper dup --from $YOUR_GNOME_repo” would do the trick. And that’s the same action as the “Switch system …”.

Yes, but that would also change gstreamer packages from packman (if you have
them) to the gnome version.
That’s why i think its better (easier) to change the link to the gnome 3.4

GNOME Team, there are issues with zypper dup that are being worked on
as well as documentation on what’s not working properly (eg multimedia
keys etc).

I would ensure if you add the repo, keep it disabled until it’s
mirrored so all packages update. If you want to keep an eye on
developments, join IRC #opensuse-gnome.

Must watch this myself. I’ll be glad to at least see this published so we can start using 3.4 without the wait, but perhaps with so many problems still ahead it will be better to just wait until 12.2, and hope that everything gets worked out. -keeps tumbleweed enable for now-

Just finished upgrading my 12.1 system to 3.4. Added the Index of /repositories/GNOME:/STABLE:/3.4 to my list, bumped its priority ahead of the stock 12.1 update site and did a zypper dup. Installed clean and is working great!

Could you describe what you mean by bumping it’s priority? For me what I did was add the repo now that it’s in publish state, leaving my current tumbleweed repos, and did a zypper dup. Everything went well so far except for the following warnings:

Ok before anyone else does what I did above, DON’T do what I did above, it didn’t work and Im forced to reverting back(switched gdm to fallback, logged in to an icewm session, removed 3.4 repo and did zypper dup) The problem is probably with tumbleweed so I will continue to wait as I like tumbleweed for various reasons, but at least it’s finally rolling in.
