gnome 3.18 on leap?

Hello

I’m new on opensuse since the release of opensuse leap, I saw that gnome shell 3.18 is in the repository factory available for leap. I tried to install it but without success (do not boot on gdm, so reinstall 3.16) .
What is the right method to update gnome 3.16 to the 3.18 version available in the factory repository without any break and have maximum gnome elements 3.18.

Another question, do you think Gnome 3.20 will be available for leap?
Thank you for your answers

I’m not a Gnome user.

Generally, factory repos are development/testing, not for use on released versions. The Gnome:factory repo was probably for Tumbleweed development, though Tumbleweed recently went to 3.20.

I don’t know if Leap 42.1 users will see an update to 3.18. I very much doubt that they will see 3.20 (but I could be wrong).

I don’t have/use gnome but I do have plasma 5.6.1 (soon to be 5.6.2) on leap
settingup gnome 3.18 should be simpler as it needs only 1 extra repo that being gnome:factory for leap
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/GNOME:/Factory/openSUSE_Leap_42.1/
so add that repo and do a vendor change with it so as to make sure all gtk packages come from that repo

sudo zypper ar -f http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/GNOME:/Factory/openSUSE_Leap_42.1/GNOME:Factory.repo
sudo zypper dup --from http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/GNOME:/Factory/openSUSE_Leap_42.1

Hi
The factory repo was not meant to be published, neither 3.18 or 3.20
will be available for openSUSE Leap 42.1, from ‘official’ repos…

thanks. It works with

sudo zypper dup --from http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/GNOME:/Factory/openSUSE_Leap_42.1

.
But maybe I should try tumbleweed…

why not we get semi-official plasma 5.6 updates, plasma 5.5 even replaced plasma 5.4 in the update repo and LEAP has a long life ahead of it, 42.2 should be out in October that means about 13 more months of life for 42.1.

Hi
Not how the openSUSE Gnome Team works their magic focus is on long term stability… there are test repos it may/may not work, but unsupported… the focus is on Tumbleweed moving forward.

Yes, if you want to latest Gnome, it probably makes more sense to go with Tumbleweed.
