Gnome 3.10

Hello, even after an year away from openSUSE i still fell like home here.

Long time not on linux and openSUSE got to 13.1, nice touch with the OS as usual and even Gnome 3.10 seems to be alright with the new additions.

One problem still bothers me, on a system with a fresh install, updated, with no running apps or Gnome extensions, Gnome desktop uses already 1Gb of Ram (according to System monitor) and thats a bit too much IMHO.

Can anyone tell me if they experienced such an “issue”, if i may call it like this ? Gnome 3.6/3.8 used around ~750-800 Mb of Ram, weird…

Hi
On average I see less that 1GB of ram usage via gnome-system-monitor.
Most of my systems have 8GB of ram now, how about your system?

What sort of applications are you running?

Good evening,

My machine has 4 Gb of Ram installed. Applications that run at start-up are hp-toolbox systray, clementine player and the nvidia dock tray. If i turn them off i reduce around ~120 Mb of Ram at max. I found a video on Youtube saying that Gnome 3.10 has a memory leak https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o5T12xhu4S8 Do you know if any bug reports are opened on Bugzilla ?

Applications that i run after the desktop loads are (mostly) skype, pidgin, google chrome, clementine and ocasionally steam.

At this very moment skype, pidgin, google chrome playing audio, steam and the hp-toolbox systray, clementine player and the nvidia dock tray are loaded, system-monitor shows i-m using 1,8 Gb of Ram.

Hi
So that’s 3.10.2 of the shell?

There maybe some bugs, but haven’t really searched for any since I see
my memory go up and down… Will keep a closer eye for a few days
here and see if it’s just the shell or not.

Hello,

Ok, i will wait for you feedback as i`m a bit curious about this.

I have found the Gnome 3.12 repo, for openSUSE 13.1 http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/GNOME:/STABLE:/3.12/openSUSE_13.1/ Do you think i should try an upgrade to 3.12 ?

Hi
I have just rebuilt my openSUSE 13.1 system (yet another new laptop a
HP ProBook 4440s  ), so restarted some checks, but it does seem to be
leaking.

You could try updating to 3.12 and see if it helps, I haven’t done it
yet…
