GNOME 3.0 session crashes reguarly

I’m running OpenSUSE 11.4+Tumbleweed with the GNOME:/STABLE:/3.0/openSUSE_11.4 repository.

I have GNOME 3.02 and I really enjoy it, but my session crashes regularly. I’m not sure how to troubleshoot this, where can I start?

There already is Gnome3.1 , but not for openSUSE-11.4+Tumbleweed:

Index of /repositories/GNOME:/Factory/openSUSE_Factory
This is risky and not meant for Tumbleweed …

You should look there in a few days, if there is a better fitting repo like:
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/GNOME:/Factory/openSUSE-11.4/
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/GNOME:/Factory/Tumbleweed/

So basically for whatever reason the GNOME developers haven’t pushed a new version of GNOME to Tumbleweed. May be GNOME 3 just isn’t mature enough yet, for them to put in the time to build & test Tumbleweed packages? The idea of Tumbleweed is to integrate the fresh, latest & greatest “stable” packages of the project and make them available, when they’re ready in one place to offer the convenience of a roller to end users and benefit of wider use of fresh code earlier (when the work is still remembered by the devs, rather than them struggling to remember what they were thinking last year, or 2 years ago).

I’ll suggest that you set aside 10GB partition and install 12.1 M3, change the repos to point to ones in Index of /factory-tested/repo and help make GNOME 3 in 12.1 a great release. Then you can submit bug reports against Factory, work with the devs and when you’re tired of crashing, go back to your “boring” safe install by re-booting. May be GNOME devs prefer testing with stable release of 11.4, in which case you follow those recommendations to try the latest GNOME packages.

That extra partition will stand you in good stead, when you want to test out upgrades anyway like 11.4 -> 12.1, so it makes sense even if you get bored of the novelties.
