Gnome 3.0 gnome-shell-extensions available in stable repository.

Hi
The gnome-shell-extensions have been accepted into the stable repository and should appear soon along with an updated gnome-shell

Now, if you installed the extensions for my factory branch whilst I was working on the extensions, you need to remove the repository and remove the installed packages as there have been some name changes to the extensions.

I don’t recommend the xrandr extension, it will crash the shell! If you do try it, you only need to do a ctrl+alt+F1 and login as root user and zypper rm, logout and ctrl+alt+F7 and login.

Enjoy

Hi
Just an update, I’ve create a couple of extra extensions;

  1. gnome-shell-extension-hotspot-icon-button - This GNOME Shell extension displays the distributor logo instead of Activities on the panel. In this case it’s the openSUSE logo
  2. gnome-shell-extension-noa11y - This GNOME Shell extension removes the Computer Accessibility icon and menu (a11y) from the panel.

I’m working on some more (YaST in the Status Menu) and some others…

For GNOME STABLE 3.0 use this repository;
Index of /repositories/home:/malcolmlewis:/GNOME:/3.0/GNOME_STABLE_3.0_openSUSE_11.4

Haha, nooo, any more cool extensions and I’ll have to erase Fedora and re-install SuSE. I can’t decide between the two as is

Hi

I’m struggling to get the auto-move-windows extension to work.

It’s installed but running the command…

gsettings set org.gnome.shell.extensions.auto-move-windows application-list “‘firefox.desktop:1’,‘evolution.desktop:2’, ‘empathy.desktop:3’]”

…isn’t having any effect.

gsettings list-recursively org.gnome.shell.extensions.auto-move-windows

…returns…

org.gnome.shell.extensions.auto-move-windows application-list ‘firefox.desktop:1’, ‘evolution.desktop:2’, ‘empathy.desktop:3’]

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Chris

Hi
Just tried it here, have you updated your system lately? I have the applications starting on the requested desktops… I had actually restarted the system, so maybe a logout/login may help.

Thanks for getting back to me.

I’m still tiptoeing around my system but I am not getting many updates coming through. I can see plenty of upgrades but I do keep breaking my desktop (about four times this week) every time I try something so trying to hold back a bit whilst I get a feel for opensuse.

Anyway, I imagine I’ve identified the problem but as above am unsure of the solution.

Looking Glass tells me that the extensions won’t run on either my shell version and/or my gjs version.

Currently I have gnome-shell 3.01-4.1 and gjs 0.7.14-1.11.

Now I guess I need to roll back the gnome-shell to 3.01-3.1 to match the extension version…? In Yast, my next version down is 2.91.6-6.9.1 so unsure as to the best move.

For gjs I have 0.7.11 and 0.7.10 as possibles.

I’d appreciate any help and advice you can give as I find the current moving workspaces setup difficult to work with.

Many thanks

Chris

Hi
The current extensions in stable match the Gnome-Shell 3.0.1. The xrandr-indicator is the one that has problems, so don’t add that one

Can you check the extensions you have installed and the versions?

Hi

Thanks for your help.

I currently have -

gnome-shell-extensions 3.0.1-3.1 (noarch)
auto-move-windows 3.0.1-3.1 (noarch)
windows-navigator 3.0.1-3.1 (noarch)
alt-status-menu 3.0.1-3.1 (noarch)
user-theme 3.0.1-3.1 (noarch)

Looking Glass tells me that alt-status-menu and user-theme are running with windows-navigator failing due to incompatible gjs and or gnome-shell - no mention of auto-move-windows now.

Re the xrandr - added that yesterday which is how I found this thread so a belated thanks on that one too

Hi
OK, can you check the metadata.json files in /usr/share/gnome-shell/extensions/extension name. For example;

cat /usr/share/gnome-shell/extensions/auto-move-windows\@gnome-shell-extensions.gnome.org/metadata.json

The shell-version should be either 3.0 or 3.0.1 if it’s not can you manually edit (as root user) and change to 3.0.1 and restart the shell and see if it loads.

If that’s the issue I need to raise a bug upstream and add a patch to fix…

Excellent!

Thanks for your help - that has solved it.

FYI the two none functioning files had 3.0.0 in them. I noted that the extensions that were working just had 3.0 in.

In the interests of science, I changed one to read 3.0 and the other to read 3.0.1 - both worked once I logged back in.

Hopefully the above is helpful and again thanks for your help and insight.

Cheers

Chris

As a footnote - I have yet to find a way to mark a thread as solved - do we not do that on this forum?

Hi
Good to hear, yes they should be just 3.0 or 3.0.1 looks like 3.0.0 is hard coded so will look at raising a bug…

Nope we don’t mark them solved
