Hi
Just build pidgin from source, been running 2.5.1 for awhile now… You
could also search as there seems to be lots of people who have built it. http://software.opensuse.org/search
Thanks for the reply. I know how to build packages from source, but shouldn’t we have updated community repositories? I can build an rpm from source just fine and install the rpm, but then why have the repo’s?
I’m mainly wondering about the status of the repositories. Will they be updated? Are the GNOME ones neglected, or going towards the route of decomissioning?
If you do decide to use the Factory repository, be careful. Because you are using OpenSUSE 11.0, and have 11.0 software installed, adding the factory repository could cause dependency issues, commonly in YaST. I don’t mean to discourage you, just wanted to warn you not to ignore any dependencies and sure positive about which packages you install. Just speaking from experience.
GNOME 2.24 on openSUSE 11.0 status
September 30th, 2008 by Bryen
Some people have asked whether they can install the new GNOME 2.24 on their openSUSE 11.0 setup, and still others have asked me to blog the status of it.
Here’s what I know:
* The openSUSE GNOME developers are working on it but there were some issues in the build service.
* There are plans to create a one-click install.
* It is hoped that this will be done soon.
* If you haven’t so yet, subscribe to the opensuse-GNOME mailing list to be notified when 2.24 is available.
