Glitch in upgrade from 11.4

I just upgraded to Tumbleweed from 11.4 however when i reboot it still says 11.4 and has i think more than one kernel listed. Also it says 11.4 when i look at the system info. How do i fix? Thanks…

> How do i fix?

nothing to fix…it is 11.4, with Tumbleweed added

in a month or so it will be 12.1 with Tumbleweed added

btw, i like the way you asked a question and didn’t wait for an
answer…do the Broadcom drivers work? yes or no please answer yourself
so the next person with the same question has the answer you learned…

hehe yeah i should go back and do that…Thanks for pointing it out…Okay so now i’m confused…I thought Tumbleweed was supposed to be a rolling release? But it still changes versions and is not a separat thing from 11.4?

It is a separate think form 11.4, it is a independent repo that can be used with the latest stable release repos like oss and non-oss or packman. In a month when 12.1 will be released you change the oss, non-oss and packman repos from 11.4 to 12.1 and run zypper dup to upgrade to the new stable release of Tumbleweed.

oss, non-oss and packman are not the only repos that can be used with Tumbleweed and of course some repos like Chromium for e.g have a Tumbleweed repo, so is not that hard to use Tumbleweed you just have to use more caution with the packages that are provided by the repo`s you are using.

it is a rolling release, yes…and it already IS separate (and
different) from either 11.4 or 12.1 or Factory…

some of the stuff you are using now in 11.4 Tumbleweed is in fact 12.1
level code…BUT, there are still some things in the Factory repos
(where 12.1 is now being worked on) that is not yet sufficiently tested
to lay on the public…but it is hoped that those things become ok
enough to release in RC2…or Gold Master…see?

and on that day 11.4 Tumbleweed will roll on and becomes exactly the
same as 12.1

and, then as new stuff is worked out in Factory (then working on 12.2)
it will be added to your system which will ROLL along as 12.1 Tumbleweed
until 12.2 is . . .

because it is different is why Tumbleweed problems are aired here and
not in the other help forums…

see?

“thar she blows” my mates arghhhh

Okay i think i see what you all are saying…It’s just foncusing me because all i have ever seen as rolling releases are other distros that only have the one variety as a rolling release and don’t use version numbers…I think arch linux was one of them which i was very interested in but installing it was more trouble than i wanted to undertake LOL …That and i just like opensuse so much

of course you do understand that the openSUSE rolling release is a
pretty new critter, right? i mean, the very first post in this forum is
only (what?) six months old??

so, it is a work in progress…maybe the day will come that 11.4 or
12.1 (or whatever) is no longer seen in those places you mentioned…

why don’t you use FATE <https://features.opensuse.org/> to make that
suggestion (which is probably a better answer to your original question
“How do i fix?” than what i gave…sorry)

i think there might be a lot of folks who will vote it up…

That`s true i will have my vote .

I wasn’t complaining mind you…I was just a bit confused based on my understanding of a rolling release…Thank you all for the clarification

If it would make your life pleasant, you could edit the file /etc/SuSE-release

Knurpht yes, but after an upgrade of Tumbleweed that file will be edited again i suspect.

Angel, i understand you, i did feel the same at first but is not that bad; you may think of Tumbleweed as a bridge between versions of openSUSE.

Hey you guys, you forgot the file /etc/SuSE-brand. If u don’t fix that one too, you’ll have violent dreams…

couldn’t one of you smart programmers just make a script to awk 11.? and
12.? to Tumbleweed in

/etc/SuSE-brand
/etc/SuSE-release
/etc/issue

[and WHERE else is that string living besides the output of some
lsb_release command?]

actually, if no one using Tumbleweed cares to write a bug . . .
