yes, it’s difficult to decide; one can’t follow everything, obviously, but
i find that following some mailing lists / forums, even if it’s as a
‘lurker’ mostly, that saves me lots of time researching problems when they
occur – because they happened to others already.

you’re welcome, and sorry if i sounded a bit harsh in my reply. felt it
was necessary to ‘defend’ the GIMP dev’s decisions, because they have to
deal with a lot of criticism on many points, like, “…why don’t you do
this like PS,” and the whole single / multiple window issue produced a lot
of heated arguments, too.

thinking that i couldn’t live without photoshop kept me from switching to
linux for a long time – until i really got into GIMP, and now, even if PS
ran on linux, i would still use GIMP. there’s a few things, like it can’t
save in > 8 bit color depth yet, but that’s mostly for high resolution
printing, which i don’t do. and that’s the next thing planned, after
releasing 2.8.
