Gimp 2.8.22 doesn’t show the Gmic menu

What can I do in order to get the G’mic menu in Gimp 2.8.22?

I have the official Suse Package for Gimp 2.8.22 installed. Now I installed with Yast the gimp-plugin-gmic Version 2.9.1-lp151.24.1 in order to access the Gmic filters. The installed files are in the plug-ins directory /usr/lib64/gimp/2.0/plug-ins/, the plug-in directory in Gimp’s preferences. By the installation Yast had a lot other packages also installed.

-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 3200511 Jun 14 17:56 /usr/lib64/gimp/2.0/plug-ins/gmic_cluts.gmz
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 1743416 Jun 14 17:56 /usr/lib64/gimp/2.0/plug-ins/gmic_gimp_qt

The version is quite new, from June 14 2020.

when I started gimp from console (/usr/bin/gimp-2.8) I got the error

/usr/lib64/gimp/2.0/plug-ins/gmic_gimp_qt: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib64/gimp/2.0/plug-ins/gmic_gimp_qt: undefined symbol: gimp_drawable_get_buffer

I also installed the G’mic Qt (/usr/bin/gmic_qt) that runs without errors.

you are a bit out of date with Gimp 2.8.22

Gimp 2.10.12 is the current in the repos

as to gmic i build it from source ( old habit )

as to your error

undefined symbol: gimp_drawable_get_buffer

i am guessing that it is do to you running gimp 2.8 and not 2.10

Gimp 2.8.22 is the official version for Leap 15.1. I wouldn’t dear to install the new 8.10 version because this might imply the update of many libraries, and with this I’m completely overstrained. I wait three weeks and I’ll try under Leap 15.2.

I am with the OP, I have an up-to-date penSUSE 15.1 and it has Gimp 2.8.22.

So, please back to the OP’s problem with Gimp 2.8.22.
