Getting error trying to boot from USB stick!

I tried to boot from live kde opensuse 11.3 and it hung for a while then printed:

failed to mount ext3 clic container
failed to mount root filesystem
rebootException: error consoles at alt f3/4

What does this mean?

Hello 6tr6tr,

Not sure what it means, but it could be a corrupted iso.
I think the problem has something to do with the root filesystem on the liveUSB.
It’s needed to boot openSUSE from a live USB.
This fails, but why I don’t know.

How did you make a live USB stick?
And did you verify the md5sum?

Best of luck!

Yeah, it was a corrupted download. I redownloaded it, verified and now it’s ok!

HELLO I AM HAVING THE SAME ERROR MESSAGE BUT I HAVE CHECKED THE HASH WITH MD5 IS THERE ANOTHER WAY TO KNOW IF THE FILE IS CORRUPTED ? OR IS IT ANOTHER PROBLEM ?

Hello AminosAmigos and welcome to the community!

First of all there’s no need to write your post in upper case.

Which iso are you trying and where did you get it from?
How did you check the md5sum?
Also you don’t say if you try to boot from a USB or a CD-ROM/DVD.

If you only checked the md5sum of the file it could be that it got corrupted while writing to the USB stick.
Try a different USB stick or perhaps even a different computer.

Best of luck!

Sorry for the upper case i forgot about it :shame: .
the ISO : openSUSE-11.4-GNOME-LiveCD-i686
i used LiLi USB Creator thank you for the quick response
I am using 1.86Go Kingston Data Traveler
“Md5Check” for the md5sum

Hello AminosAmigos,

The casing is fine, but the text size is a bit big.:sarcastic:

I’ve never used LiLi USB Creator.
Perhaps you could try a different tool for writing the iso to the USB stick.
Have a look here for some information: SDB:Live USB stick - openSUSE

But before trying a different tool it’s important to make sure the md5sum is correct.

I assume “Md5Check” is part of LiLi USB Creator?
Anyway, what was the md5sum it returned?
Or which md5sum did you enter?

Good luck!

“Md5Check” is used to see if the MD5sum of file matches a MD5sum you give .
i verified and it is identical to the MD5sum in the download page
(9bbbca60871e8f109f390359b7c8b661) openSUSE-11.4-GNOME-LiveCD-i686.iso

i used the “SUSE Studio ImageWriter” and followed the WIKI instructions then rebooted it booted from the USB but after i choose Live opensuse the screen becomes fuzzy with different colors but the mouse is responding but i cant see anything its like a TV without a signal

Hello AminosAmigos,

Ok, it’s all clear now.
This means that the iso file isn’t corrupted.

This means that it gets corrupted later on.
It could be a problem of LiLi USB Creator or your USB stick.

Could you try a different USB stick?

Best of luck!

Yep i am trying a different one now hope it works !
