I’m getting blank when I log out. I’m trying to change desktop environments as I’m having problems, so I want to login as root from login gui. Is there a way to automatically login as root at boot?
I am not quite understanding what you experience when you log out (from a GUI session, I assume, but you do not tell which Desktop Environment).
But I read that you want to log in in the GUI as root. Please don’t. You should never do that. Even from the console you shouldn’t when not needed (and it is needed only very rare, e.g. when no normal user can log in at all).

I’m logging out of LXDE. There is no gui login at logout, which allows me to switch to other DE.
This is a temporary system meant to learn programming, so there is not damage I can do if I login as root. So how do I make system login automatically as root.
Yes there is. Read @hcvv’s link, please. Even when learning programming. Specially when learning programming, even.
Question: How does LXDE start if no display/loginmanager starts?
It is just going to desktop when it starts.
You should of course get a login page from the display manager you use. I think it is best to solve first why you do not get that. What display manager do you use?
Then you have configured it for automatic login.
Maybe switch that off first.
And of course, as Knurpht says, when you want to learn programming, it is the more important that you follow good practices.
I don’t know what the display manager is. Is there a way I can find out?
Re-reading the thread, I see that you choose for OTHER VERSION when asked for the version of openSUSE you use. But you did not then explain what version that is. So we are still poking in the dark.
We now know you are using LXDE, but that information was also posted rather late.
Please, we can not look over your shoulder and while people here are willing to use their free time in trying to help others, spoiling that time in asking for obvious information is not realy a hobby for most.
