to tell always what version of openSUSE you use and to provide more information about which desktop you use when there is a tiny chance it matters;
to copy/paste computer text between CODE tags in a post here (gettinng the CODE tags by clicking on the # bar in the tool bar), preferable inclusing prompt -command - output - next prompt.
Further to Henk’s advice (which may assist with getting accurate advice), it is not clear from your opening post about what you are trying to do , or where you are stuck. The output you supplied is not enough to go by.
Hhave you searched for Canon Linux drivers yet? Many of the Canon printer models require proprietary software.
We need to know some details to help you. There may be difference between versions and we ask that code be but between code tags so it does not get reformatted and hard to read.
I could use more details on “configuring via YaST (or the CUPS web interface if you prefer).”
So, I assume you installed the Canon driver without issue? Unfortunately, your photo is not accessible.
First, make sure you are a member of the ‘lp’ group for (USB-attached printer access).
YaST >> Security and Users >> User and Group Management
Here you can ‘edit’ the relevant user and make them a member of the ‘lp’ group if necessary.
I generally prefer to add printers manually via ‘Add Printer’ (You will be asked for your root authentication during this process.) You should see your locally-attached printer listed. Follow the prompts given. Once you select ‘Canon’ for make, you should find the appropriate model listed. Select it, and ‘Add Printer’. Once you have completed the requested steps, you should be able to perform a CUPS test print. Let us know how you get on.
Hang in there Andy. You’re making progress and no doubt learning lots. It is easier to use the package manager to install RPM files like these. Navigate to the file with Dolphin (assuming KDE), right-click on the file, and you’ll see that you can select ‘Open with’ >> ‘Install/Remove Software’. It will then find and install any dependant packages for you.
Alternatively, you should be able to install ‘libpango-1_0-0’ with
zypper in libpango-1_0-0
then try installing the printer driver package again.
I sure hope the scanner driver installation is more straight forward.
Andy
Over time, I have installed a number of HP, Brother, Epson, and Canon drivers. Canon drivers are probably the least friendly (and least well documented) to install. Even though I’ve never owned a Canon printer, I’ve assisted several users with the driver installation, often by installing the drivers myself first, so that the installation steps can be verified.
Don’t worry too much about the scanner driver installation. I’m sure you’ll find that relatively straightforward.
