Get New "widgets, themes, whatever" doesn't work

Sorry,
I didn’t see the don’t ask questions warning until after I posted this and now I can’t find a way to delete it. Please delete if this is inappropriate here. Also I can’t find a topic that this fits under…

Ever since the last update whenever I try to use “get new widgets” or “get new themes” or anything similar it will say “looking up providers” and then time out stating it had an error. It used to work. Any ideas what can be causing this?

Thanks,
Dave

Hi
Moving to applications, temporarily closed.

Hi
Thread moved and re-opened.

Please state the openSUSE Release your using (So I can fix the prefix) as well as the desktop environment.

I’m using 13.2/KDE and sometime after the last updates I found that the "get widgets, themes etc’ all time out looking for providers. It had been working up to a couple of weeks ago. If I go and get the stuff myself I can still install them of course but just wondering what could have broke the built in stuff.

Thanks,
Dave

seem ok here just made sure I had latest? Which KDE desktop? Maybe a connection problem

KDE Version 4.14.9. Not a connection problem as browsers, mail, Yast etc all work fine. It says it gets an error when looking up providers when I try the built in KDE theme, widgets etc to get them. But if I manually find and download them after locating what I want with google they install and run ok. For instance I just download GIS-Weather and installed it just fine manually.

Here is the exact error:

“Loading of providers from the file: http://download.kde.org/ocs/providers.xml failed”

And here is the file it is trying to load:

<providers>
<provider>
<id>opendesktop</id>
<location>https://api.opendesktop.org/v1/</location>
<name>openDesktop.org</name>

</providers>

Can you get to that URL from a browser??

Yes and I also tried all the other url’s listed in that file and can get to all of them with Chrome.

Apparently the “Plasma Desktop Shell Add-On Installer” doesn’t like what its finding (or not finding) there. The funny thing is this worked until a couple of weeks ago as I used it to change a couple things.
