Get_iplayer is still available from TW repo but does this version include AtomicParsley and which ffmpeg should I be using now. There are versions 4,5 & 6 all available from repo.
I recall that Malcolm Lewis had updated GiP a while ago to 3.30 and put on the openbuild service but GiP is now at v3.1 I believe. Should I be trying to upgrade and if so how?
Hi Malcolm,
This rebuild is taking me much longer than I though because my “backup” using pCloud lost me, inter alia, my hidden files. The price of not keeping my home directory! I also have forgotten all the things I used to do to set up get_iplayer.
As a result I cannot get GiP working correctly. I have get_iplayer from your open build but not v3.31.
I have a version of AtomicParsley but I have no idea where these are installed, there is no neat setup.sh or similar.
I want to check that atomicparsley is installed in the rights place and working,.
I am not sure which ffmpeg will work but I have ffmpeg-6 installed anyhow.
I have forgotten how and where to put my pvr list text file which has my list and was working until this new build. Getting tired. Can you shine some light please.
I’m using ffmpeg-5 but know of no reason why 6 won’t work.
I don’t have any use for the PVR, but just installed it to see where it went, and this is the file list:
/usr/bin/get_iplayer_pvr
/usr/share/applications/get_iplayer_pvr.desktop
/usr/share/fillup-templates/sysconfig.get_iplayer
/usr/share/get_iplayer
/usr/share/get_iplayer/get_iplayer.cgi
If this isn’t what you’re looking for, then apologies.
@Budgie2 From my home (openSUS_General) repository it’s not needed from Packman, there is nothing that stops either from being built on the openSUSE Build Service…
So you will need to ask the Packman folks to update…
Hi Malcolm,
I now have your open build service repo installed with GiP v3.30 running and all is well so many thanks but I am stuck with restoring my PVR list.
I have the list as a text file but please could you tell me how to get that list to work. I did a couple of pvr-add commands to get some data in my ~/. get_iplayer/pvr directory but these are added as individual files for each addition and when I run pvr-list I get a file for each entry. How do I get the full list which is in only one file into my system?
Hi and many thanks, I found my old link to Malcolm’s openbuild repo and everything I needed is there.
Thanks for your help.
Now I have to stir my grey cells to remember how to restore my pvr-list, curated over many years!
Thanks again.
Hi Malcolm,
I have copied an existing pvr list by copying the ~/.get_iplayer/pvr directory from another machine as an expedient solution.
pvr is running well and updating as I type but I have a problem with some Top Gear downloads. I didn’t need these as they are the “new team” but I found that they are downloaded as
Top_Gear_America_Series_2_-_01._Supercars_p0g7k06x_original.hls.ts files for which GiP does not convert them to .mp4. What am I missing please?
alastair@HP-Z640-1:~> get_iplayer --prefs-show
Options in '/home/alastair/.get_iplayer/options'
output = /home/alastair/Downloads/BBC_GiP_Downloads

I must be relying on the defaults which are all now OK. I have still not checked the tagging, no time just now, will sort out what has arrived at the weekend as pvr should run tonight!
