Get gnome to save layout

Everytime I start gnome I get a blank session. How can I either save a default layout like I could in kde 3.5, or at least get gnome to remember the previous layout like you can in xfce?

Hi,
you can run gnome-session-save,
the saved session will be later restored at your next GNOME startup session.

This doesn’t seem to work. Does this have something to do with the “missing x-nautilus-desktop” message I am getting?

If you create a new user eg test does the same problem occur for this
user?

Ok, on the test user anything it .xsession-erros? What happens if you
move the .nautilus directory from the test user logout/login?
