Do we have any users of a genealogy program ?
I used to used Family Tree Maker for win doze but that has fallen by the wayside.
Then recently a cousin sent me an updated gedcom file and I would like to be able to view and input into it.

I’ve used GRAMPS for a few years, and it does the job. It’s available in
the standard repos, and an updated version in Gnome:Apps.
I use webtrees, a fork of the now very dated PhpGedView.
webtrees is a web-based programme and is accessed through any web-browser. It can be installed on your personal machine (LAMP required) or on a remote server and, unusually, is fully compliant with the GEDcom standard.
If you just want to view a gedcom file it is probably overkill, but is an excellent choice if you want share your work with other family members. It allows various access levels for viewing and editing as well as import/export options. See http://www.webtrees.net

Me too. I’ve found it easy to use and there’s plenty of support via
mailing list - also viewable on gmane.org news-server.
There are a couple of very minor problems with the latest version in
Gnome:apps, 4.0.4, in that it complains that modules “webkit” and
“osmgpsmap” are missing. However they are used by plug-ins that you’ll
probably never need.
